From feed posts to Instagram Videos and Reels, knowing the best Instagram image size and ratio is no mean feat.

In this handy guide, you'll find all the Instagram dimensions you need to create perfect images and videos.

Understanding Instagram Image Size & Aspect Ratio

When sharing photos and videos on Instagram, there are two main things to keep in mind: aspect ratio and size.

Instagram Aspect Ratio (Dimension)

Aspect ratio refers to the width of a picture in relation to its height.

It's expressed as a ratio, like 4:5 or 9:16, where the first digit represents the width and the second digit represents height.

It's important to make sure your photos and videos fall within Instagram's guidelines, otherwise, they'll be cropped to fit a supported ratio — which could result in part of your image being lost.

Luckily, Later's cropping tool has recommended ratios for Instagram, Pinterest, and Twitter — so you can always make sure your posts are perfectly optimized before you post.

Instagram Image Size (Resolution)

Size (or resolution) refers to the number of pixels that make up the width and height of your photo or video.

Like aspect ratio, size is expressed by two numbers — the first representing width and the second representing height.

For example, a picture size of 1080px by 1080px is much larger than one sized 50px by 50px.

So why does picture size on Instagram matter?

Even though Instagram compresses your photos and videos, it's always better to share at an optimal resolution. That way, when Instagram compresses your photo size, it won't affect the image quality.

Achieve the perfect crop for all your posts with Later's editing tools , available on all Later plans!

Instagram Post Size Guide #1: Instagram Feed Posts

Once upon a time, Instagram photo and video sizes were limited to the simple square, but now (almost) anything goes.

Dimensions of Instagram posts now range from 16:9 all the way to 4:5!

Horizontal Posts (16:9)

While Instagram recommends a post ratio of 1.91:1, you can actually go as far as 16:9.

In any case, we recommend you make the height of your horizontal photo at least 1080px. That way, when Instagram compresses the file, the quality should remain pretty high.

Square Posts (1:1)

Although Instagram supports horizontal and vertical photos, square posts continue to be a popular choice on Instagram – especially as the Instagram profile grid crops content to a 1:1 ratio.

So how do you optimize for square?

We recommend making your square photos 1080px by 1080px in size. That way, when Instagram compresses the file, the version will still be high quality.

Vertical Posts (4:5)

Generally speaking, your vertical photos should have an aspect ratio of 4:5. Anything longer (like 4:6 or 4:7), and Instagram will crop your content.

Vertical posts take up more real estate as someone scrolls through their home feed, so they're more optimized than horizontal posts. However, it's a good idea to keep in mind how they'll look once they're cropped square in the Instagram profile grid.

As for size, we recommend going with 1080px by 1350px. That way, when Instagram compresses the photo, it should be displayed at around 480px by 600px.

Instagram Post Size Guide #2: Instagram Carousel Posts

Instagram carousel posts can be square, horizontal, or vertical in format — and can include both photos and videos.

However, once you've selected your first photo or video, all of the following photos or videos you select will be cropped to the same aspect ratio.

If the first photo you select is square (like the example above) all of your following content will be cropped to a 1:1 format.

Instagram Post Size Guide #3: Instagram Stories

You can share pretty much anything on Instagram Stories, as long as it has a minimum dimensions of 1.91:1 and a maximum dimensions of 9:16.

Because most people prefer their stories to take up the whole screen (no borders), we recommend using an aspect ratio of 9:16 with a size of 1080px by 1920px.

Need some help editing your Instagram Stories? Check out our top apps for creating Instagram Stories.

Instagram Post Size Guide #4: Instagram Videos

Instagram recently merged Feed videos and IGTVs into a single format:Instagram Video.

By merging IGTV with Feed videos, Instagram now has a single destination for longer form video content.

To support this change, Instagram's introduced several new features for Instagram Video:

  • A new Video tab on Profile

  • Trimming

  • Ability to upload video captions

  • People and location tagging

  • 60 second Feed Previews*

NOTE: Previews will be limited to 15 seconds for In-stream Video Ads.

Instagram supports Feed Video Previews with aspect ratios spanning from 16:9 to 4:5. Videos should have a frame rate of 30 frames per second, and a maximum file size of 4GB.

Once you've nailed your Instagram Video sizes, you can get your content out there with Later's Visual Instagram Planner.

It shows you exactly what your Instagram feed will look like with your future posts (both images and videos) — making it a game-changer for nailing your aesthetic.

It lets you easily rearrange or swap out your posts, so you can find the perfect balance for your Instagram feed.

Scheduling out your posts ahead of time doesn't just help you maintain a consistent aesthetic, but it also helps you to post regularly.

Instagram Post Size Guide #5: Instagram Reels

Much like stories, Instagram Reels are designed to be viewed vertically, full-screen, and on mobile.

With this in mind, we recommend using an aspect ratio of 9:16. Shooting and editing directly on mobile is a good way to stick to the optimal dimensions.

TIP: The bottom fifth of a Reel is where the video caption is displayed. Avoid having important visual elements in this section if possible.

Instagram Post Size Guide #6: Live Videos

Instagram Live videos are meant to be shot vertically, as they are designed to be broadcast directly from your mobile device.

This means the aspect ratio will always be the full width and height of your screen (which is usually 9:16).

As you can't manually change the size or aspect ratio of your Instagram Live videos, you don't have to worry too much about it.

How to Resize Images to Instagram Size

Now you know all of the best sizes and dimensions for every type of Instagram post, you can optimize your content accordingly.

Later has a super handy cropping tool with all the recommended ratios for Instagram image posts — so you can adjust your posts to the perfect crop as you plan and schedule your content.

All you have to do is tap the "Edit" button when you drag and drop an image onto your content calendar.

To resize a video for Instagram, you can also use Later's editing tools.

You can easily crop to Instagram's recommended video dimensions (square, portrait, or landscape), and trim your video to a new length.

That's it! You're now up-to-speed on how to optimize your feed posts, stories, IGTV videos, Reels, and more.

And if you're ever unsure, download our free infographic as a quick and easy reference.

Still futzing around with Facebook? Finding your temper tantrum rising with Twitter? For a less irritating online experience, you should take your social networking act to Instagram, the photo-focused site that's just an easy download away.

Instagram's available on a number of mobile platforms and there's a browser-based interface, too, so downloading Instagram is a snap. And once you've got the Instagram app installed on your iPhone or Android device, you can scroll through pictures shared by friends and the famous alike — not to mention posting your own Instagram stories and photos.

  • Best Android apps
  • The best iOS apps for your iPhone
  • How to delete an Instagram account

Here's how to download Instagram to your mobile device along with tips for making the most of this Facebook-owned photo-sharing site.

Where to download Instagram

If you're on a Mac or Windows machine, the best way to experience Instagram is to head to the social networking service's website at Instagram.com. For a more optimized experience, though, you'll want to grab one of the different versions of Instagram for your particular phone or tablet.

That's easy enough to do, as you'll find a downloadable version of Instagram in most popular mobile app stores.

  • Instagram for Android: Google Play
  • Instagram for iOS and iPhone: iOS App Store
  • Instagram for Windows 10: Microsoft Store

What you can do with Instagram

Instagram got started off as a way to share photos — usually modified with filters — with your friends and followers. And while that remains a major reason to visit Instagram, if you think that's all the social networking site provides, you haven't visited Instagram lately.

For example, Instagram Stories let you share multiple photos and videos in a continuous slideshow. In Snapchat-like fashion, Instagram stories disappear after 24 hours. And in true Instagram fashion, there are plenty of font, color, music and sticker adjustments you can make to put your own individual stamp on a story. We've got eight tips for Instagram Stories if you're looking to explore this particular feature.

Shared online experiences have become quite a trend with social networking sites, and Instagram isn't about to be left out of the mix. Instagram Co-watching is a chat feature that lets you join your friends to view posts together over voice and video calls. Here's how to use Instagram Co-watching to connect with your friends over Instagram.

In addition to these features, Instagram offers private message, the ability to watch long-form videos from creators and even shopping capabilities. You can check out all the various things you can do with Instagram at the social networking service's site. It's worth a visit since Instagram seems to be constantly adding new tools and capabilities.

How to Create an Instagram Landing Page (+4 Examples)

Do you want to create an Instagram landing page?

Making a landing page for Instagram is the easiest way to drive Instagram traffic directly to your website. And as a result, it can help convert that traffic into leads, subscribers, and paying customers.

In this article, we show you how to create an Instagram landing page in WordPress easily.

  1. Why Should You Create a Landing Page for Instagram?
  2. Instagram Landing Page Examples
    • 1. Scribd Instagram Ad Landing Page
    • 2. Wall Street Journal Instagram Landing Page
    • 3. HKT Products Link in Bio Page
    • 4. Etsy Instagram Product Page
  3. How to Create an Instagram Landing Page
    • Step 1: Install and Activate SeedProd
    • Step 2: Create a New Landing Page
    • Step 3: Choose a Landing Page Template
    • Step 4: Customize Your Landing Page Design
    • Step 5: Publish Your Instagram Landing Page

But first…

Why Should You Create a Landing Page for Instagram?

As we mentioned above, creating a landing page for Instagram is the best way to direct potential customers to your business website.

More importantly, you can only add one clickable link to your Instagram profile. Therefore, any link you add to your bio should be one of your most important assets, i.e., a high-converting landing page.

There are a few types of Instagram landing pages you can create on your website.

First, you can make a link-in bio landing page, similar to LinkTree, where you can add links to blog posts, pages on your website, and links to other social media profiles. The clear benefit of this type of landing page is it helps raise brand awareness and drives traffic to your website.

You can also create a landing page linked to your Instagram ads. For instance, when a user clicks on your ad, they're taken to a landing page on your website that shows a special offer.

Naturally, this type of landing page is the best way to collect contact information with forms and increase your conversion rate with limited offers.

Now that you know the advantages of making landing pages for your Instagram profile let's look at a few examples.

Instagram Landing Page Examples

If you're not sure which type of landing page you should use for Instagram, here are some great examples.

1. Scribd Instagram Ad Landing Page

First is a sponsored Instagram post from Scribd. It features a visually appealing image, with a call to action to subscribe for a 30-day free trial.

Scribd Instagram advertisement

When you click the ad, you'll see a landing page promoting their offer.

Scribd instagram landing page example

The page includes:

  • An attention-grabbing hero area
  • Multiple free trial call-to-action (CTA) buttons
  • Price comparison table
  • Testimonials and reviews
  • Client logos for social proof

As a result, after the Instagram ad click, users are compelled to sign up for the offer.

2. Wall Street Journal Instagram Landing Page

The Wall Street Journal takes a different approach with its bio link landing page. They use a 3rd-party app to show selected news articles in an Instagram-style layout.

The Wall Street Journal instagram landing page

Clicking each image takes you directly to the article on their website. Or you can click the CTA button to go straight to their site.

If you want to make a typical link in bio page, here's a simple example from HKT Products. Using 3rd-party link in bio tools, they made a minimalist page that links to different pages on their website.

HKT Proucts instagram landing page example

For instance, they link to:

  • Individual product pages
  • Product tutorials
  • Company podcast
  • YouTube channel
  • Newsletter subscription page
  • And more

As a result, they can send their fans to pages specially designed to increase leads, sales, and followers.

4. Etsy Instagram Product Page

Finally, is this Instagram page from Etsy. Again, it's an entirely different approach to a social media landing page, but the goal is the same – to promote their products.

Etsy Instagram landing page example

Instead of using a link in bio tool or an Instagram ad, Etsy created a page on their website tailored to their Instagram audience. Here users can browse popular products curated from its Instagram feed and buy them directly from their site.

Each of the Instagram landing page examples above shows a unique take on how you can drive Instagram traffic to your website.

With that said, let's find out how to make one for yours.

How to Create an Instagram Landing Page

To follow this tutorial, you'll need several things:

  1. Domain name
  2. Website hosting
  3. Business website

If you already have an established website, you don't need to worry about this. But if you don't, you'll need to create a business website.

We recommend using WordPress to make your site. It's the most popular website platform and powers nearly 41% of all websites on the internet.

WordPress is free, open-source, and has thousands of pre-built website designs and extensions. It's highly flexible and works with almost every third-party tool and service available to website owners.

We even use it to run our website!

For help getting set up, follow this step-by-step guide on how to create a WordPress website.

With your website ready, you'll need to decide which type of Instagram landing page you want to create.

You can follow our guide on how to create a link in bio page, or you can follow the steps below to create a more personalized Instagram landing page in WordPress. For instance, one that you can link to your advertisements.

Ready? Let's dive in!

Step 1: Install and Activate SeedProd

For this tutorial, we're using SeedProd to make an Instagram landing page. SeedProd is the best WordPress page builder plugin on the market.

SeedProd best WordPress landing page plugin

It includes a drag-and-drop visual editor to design your page in real-time. And it has tons of templates and customization options to make your page look exactly how you want.

In addition, you can integrate your page with popular email marketing services to grow your email list. Plus, it works seamlessly with any WordPress theme for a fast and efficient experience.

With that in mind, click here to get started with SeedProd. Then install and activate the plugin on your WordPress website.

Note: there is a free version of SeedProd available, but we'll use the Pro version for the advanced features we need.

If you need help with this step, you can follow this guide on installing a WordPress plugin.

After installing SeedProd, go to SeedProd » Settings and enter your license key.

Verify your seedprod license key

If you don't have your license key ready, you can find it in the account section of the SeedProd website.

Step 2: Create a New Landing Page

After activating your license key, go to SeedProd » Pages.

SeedProd landing page modes

On this page, you can:

  • Create and activate a coming soon page
  • Activate maintenance mode
  • Make a custom 404 page
  • Set up a custom WordPress login page
  • Create a standalone WordPress landing page

The advantage of SeedProd's page modes is that it adds extra functionality to your site without installing multiple WordPress plugins.

For this guide, we want to create a standalone landing page. To do that, click the Add New Landing Page button.

Add a new landing page in WordPress

Step 3: Choose a Landing Page Template

On the following screen, you can choose from hundreds of responsive landing page templates.

SeedProd landing page templates

You can filter designs by clicking the tabs along the top, such as:

  • All
  • Coming Soon
  • Maintenance Mode
  • 404 Page
  • Sales
  • Webinar
  • Lead Squeeze
  • Webinar
  • Login

The best approach is to look for a template that closely matches the design you want to achieve. If it's not a perfect fit, don't worry; you can easily customize it in the next step.

To show you how easy it is, we'll start with the Maintenance Page Minimal template.

Go ahead and hover your mouse over the template thumbnail and click the check icon to import it.

Import your landing page template

Next, you'll see a visual cue to enter your page name and URL. It's a good idea to make this something your Instagram fans will recognize easily.

Give your landing page a name

You can then click the Save and Start Editing the Page button to launch your template in the visual editor.

Step 4: Customize Your Landing Page Design

Now, it's time to start customizing your Instagram page with the drag-and-drop builder.

You'll see a live preview of your page on the right. To edit the page element, simply click on the item, and an editing menu will appear on the left.

SeedProd drag-and-drop visual editor

In addition, the left-hand options panel has elements you can drag and drop right onto your landing page design.

Now, let's add some blocks and customizations to make the template more like an Instagram page.

Editing & Deleting Blocks

First, let's change the landing page heading, so users know why they're there and what the page is about.

To do this, click anywhere on the heading text and replace it with your custom message.

Customize your Instagram landing page text and headings

If there are any elements you want to remove, simply hover your mouse over the block and click the trashcan icon.

Deleting seedprod blocks

Uploading Custom Images

Now, let's replace the default images with some popular posts from your website. All you need to do is click the existing image and delete it using the trashcan icon in the left-hand panel.

Delete existing template images

From there, you can click the Use Your Own button to upload an image from your computer or WordPress media library.

Upload new images and add custom URLs

You can add a link in the same image settings panel, so anyone who clicks your image goes directly to the relevant blog post.

Duplicating Page Blocks & Rows

Now let's say you want to add another row of images. To do this quickly, you can duplicate the existing row.

Just hover your mouse over the row and click the Duplicate Row icon. Then, simply repeat the process above to add your images and post links.

Duplicating rows in SeedProd

Adding a Landing Page Optin Form

If one of your goals is to collect email addresses from your Instagram fans, you can do this easily with SeedProd's optin-form block.

Add an optin form block to collect email addresses

Just drag the block onto your page, and click it to configure your form settings. For instance, you can change your call-to-action button text, colors, form input labels, and more.

SeedProd customize optin form

From there, click the Connect tab at the top of the screen to connect to your email marketing service.

SeedProd email marketing integrations

For full instructions on connecting to individual email marketing providers, see our email integration documentation.

Customizing Global Colors, Fonts & Backgrounds

To ensure your page has a consistent look and feel, you can use the Global Settings panel.

SeedProd global settings panel

Just click the cog icon in the bottom-left corner to see global settings for:

  • Fonts
  • Colors
  • Background
  • Custom CSS

For example, in the Fonts section, we changed the default font color to white to stand out against the column background images.

SeedProd global fonts settings

When you're happy with how your landing page looks, click the green Save button in the top-right corner.

Save your Instagram landing page changes

Step 5: Publish Your Instagram Landing Page

Given that most Instagram users browse the platform from a smartphone or tablet, it's an excellent idea to ensure your page looks good on mobile devices before publishing.

You can do this easily with SeedProd's live mobile preview feature. Simply click the Mobile Preview icon in the bottom navigation bar.

SeedProd live mobile preview setting

Then you can preview your page on mobile and make any necessary edits.

Customize the live mobile preview of your landing page

Finally, save your changes and click the dropdown arrow next to the Save button and click Publish.

Publish your instagram landing page in WordPress

Your Instagram landing page is now live! Click the See Live Page button to preview how it looks.

Preview your Instagram landing page

Now all that's left is to add your new page's URL to your Instagram bio or advertisement to start sending targeted traffic to your WordPress site.

That's it!
